WATERLOO, Ont. – Receiver
Jaxon Stebbings (offence), defensive lineman
Matteo Laquintana (defence), and receiver
Logan Moore (special teams) have been named the Laurier Football Players of the Week, presented by Nothers The Award Store, following the Golden Hawks' season-ending OUA quarterfinal match-up against the Western Mustangs.
Stebbings saved his best performance of the season for the biggest stage.
The fourth-year receiver recorded career highs with eight receptions and 110 receiving yards while scoring two fourth-quarter touchdowns against the Mustangs. His 110-yard outing led all Laurier receivers and marked the first 100-yard game of his OUA career.
With the Golden Hawks attempting to erase a sizeable deficit, Stebbings found the end zone on receptions of 33 and two yards from quarterback
Will Russell. His second touchdown of the afternoon pulled Laurier within 10 points with just over two minutes remaining and capped an impressive individual effort in the season finale.
Stebbings' breakout performance highlighted an offence that amassed 575 total yards against one of U SPORTS' top-ranked teams.
This is the fourth career award for Stebbings.
Laquintana was a disruptive force along the defensive front throughout Saturday's quarterfinal matchup.
The third-year defensive lineman registered an assisted tackle against Western's explosive offence, consistently battling at the line of scrimmage and was one of the Golden Hawks' most active defenders.
His performance capped a strong season for the native of Hamilton, Ont., who continued to emerge as a key contributor on Laurier's defensive unit by finishing fourth on the team in sacks and tackles for loss.
This is the third award for Laquintana and first this season.
Moore provided a spark for the Golden Hawks in the return game and continued to showcase the playmaking ability that made him one of Laurier's most dynamic rookies this season.
The third-year receiver returned four kickoffs for 95 yards, averaging 23.8 yards per return. His longest return of the afternoon went for 32 yards and helped provide valuable field position for the Laurier offence.
He also had a long punt return for a touchdown called back due to an illegal block penalty with just over nine minutes left in the fourth quarter.
This is the fourth career award, and third this season, for Moore.
