DUNDAS, Ont. - Laurier's women's curling rink won its second consecutive tournament of the 2024/25 season with a win over Trent in the final of the McMaster Invitational Bonspiel on Sunday.
The Golden Hawks rink skipped by
Emma Artichuk included
Sarah Bailey,
Logan Shaw, and
Rebecca Rankin also reached its third straight bonspiel final to start the season with the weekend's performance, outscoring the opposition 34-6 over its five games, including back-to-back shutout wins in pool play.
Laurier opened the tournament at Dundas Valley Golf & Curling Club on Saturday morning with a 9-4 win over the Brock Badgers, which wrapped early thanks to a five-point seventh end by the Golden Hawks.
The team's second game of the day only went four ends as the purple and gold scored at least a single in each of them en route to a 7-0 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues.
The start of day two was almost identical, as they again scored in each of the first four ends to shake hands early in a 5-0 defeat of the host Marauders.
In the last game of pool play, their shoutout streak was finally halted at 14 consecutive ends but not before taking a 4-0 lead on the other lone undefeated team, Trent. The Excalibur ultimately conceded a 6-1, five-end loss.
The two teams met again in the final with the Excalibur jumping out to a 1-0 lead. Laurier would put up points in each of the next five ends though, including three in the decisive sixth to secure a 7-1 victory.
Laurier will now break from competition for a week before competing in the Brock Invitational from January 18-19 at the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club.Â
That event will also serve as the final tune-up before the OUA Championships being hosted by Laurentian at Idylwylde Golf & Country Club in Sudbury from January 31-February 1.
