The Laurier field hockey team started their winter season by hosting their annual Alumni Fundraiser, followed by their start to the season in the Western Indoor Field Hockey League at RIM Park. The team's Alumni Fundraiser is an annual event that brings past and present Golden Hawks together for a game at University Stadium.Â
In the Western Indoor Field Hockey League, Laurier has two teams participating. The AÂ Team played their first indoor games starting off against the Guelph Cobras and Dolphins Blue. In their game against the Guelph Cobras, Laurier scored four goals. Goals were scored by
Alice Miller,
Katie-Jo Smith,
Devon Farquhar, and
Haley Chen. The team came up short with a 5-4 loss. Their second game against the Dolphins Blue proved tough, with a final score of 5-0. Despite the loss, the Golden Hawks look forward to using this momentum in the coming weeks.
Laurier's B Team opened against the Waterloo Women's Field Hockey Club, with
Brinley Brule,
Calli Pendlebury, and
Alexis Knipfel each scoring, but the team fell 4-3 as they worked to get back into the rhythm of play. In their second game, Laurier secured a 4-3 win against the Toronto Field Hockey Club, with all four goals coming from Pendlebury. The weekend wrapped up with a close 3-2 loss to the Dragons Field Hockey Club, with
Emma Pacheco and Ainsley each finding the net. The team is showing good progress and looks forward to building on this momentum as the season continues.
