WATERLOO, Ont. (September 27, 2019) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks saw many clubs team in action this weekend.
Men's LacrosseFans of Lacrosse were treated to a classic defensive battle as our Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks hosted the McMaster Marauders Friday night at University Stadium.
Both defense dominated led by the solid net minding of Marauder's star of the game Anthony Martins (Oakville, Ont.) and Hawks
Sam Stewart (Bracebridge, Ont.).
Possessions ended up being the key to the game as Hawks star of the game, face off man,
Marc Bordin (Toronto, Ont.) dominated at X and contributed to Andrew Borgatti's (Brampton, Ont.) game winner in overtime making the final 4-3 Laurier.
Prior Hawk goals were scored by
Brandon Robinson (Pickering, Ont.), Sam DeMarchi (Toronto, Ont.) and
Austin Pope (Caledon, Ont.) who had three points on the night.
The team then travelled to Sudbury to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs on Sunday for a double header. Game one was completing a game from earlier in the season that was suspended due to weather. Laurier won 10-8.
In game two Laurier got off to a hot start with four goals in the opening frame from Borgatti, back-to-back scores from Ben Penny-Perrault (Cambridge, Ont.) and Pope.
Pope and Penny-Perrault would each finish the game with a hat-trick, tallying five and four points respectively.
Brandon Robinson (Pickering, Ont.) and Borgatti would round out the scoring with two each and Laurier would go on to win 10-6.
Women's Field HockeyThe Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's field hockey team tied the McMaster Marauders 1-1 on Friday night in Hamilton. Rookie
Abbey Smallwood (Burlington, Ont.) scored the loan goal for the Golden Hawks.
Women's Softball Laurier's women's softball team wrapped up their regular season play over the weekend with a double header against the McMaster Marauders on Friday night.
Laurier won game one 12-5 but dropped the second 4-3. For the full softball recap
