THORNHILL, Ont. - Laurier's women's curling team was dominant this past weekend, winning the University of Toronto Intercollegiate Bonspiel at the Thornhill Curling Club.
The Golden Hawks' rink, skipped by
Emma Artichuk, outscored their opposition by a combined score of 31-6 over their three games on Saturday to secure top spot.Â
Contributions from teammates
Sarah Bailey,
Scotia Maltman,
Victoria Zemmelink, and
Logan Shaw propelled the purple and gold to convincing wins over TMU (11-1), Mohawk (12-1), and Humber (8-4) in the team's second competition of the season.
The performance followed up an impressive result in the Guelph Invitational a week earlier to begin the year, in which the team went 3-1 in round-robin play before losing by a point to Waterloo in the final.
Laurier's men's team, the four-time defending OUA champions, made the U of T bonspiel its first of the season and struggled to find consistency in their game, going 1-2.Â
Led by skip
Wyatt Small, the team was rounded out by
Adam Moor,
Nathan Kim, and
Wyatt Wright and book-ended an 11-1 win over TMU with losses to Toronto (7-3) and York (6-2).
Both teams will return to action at the McMaster Invitational Bonspiel beginning Saturday, January 4 through Sunday, January 5, at the Dundas Valley Golf & Curling Club.
