WATERLOO, Ont. - Golden Hawks Riley Marwick and Ethan Jordan are the Laurier Athletes of the Week, presented by The Hawk Shop, for the week ending October 20, 2024.

Marwick, a second-year kinesiology and physical education major from Ramara, Ont. had a great weekend of play as the women's lacrosse team split their final two regular season games in Hamilton.

With a short roster defeating Brock 14-7 before losing to Western 16-8, Marwick tallied four goals overall, playing attack and midfield as needed. She also created great movement in the offensive zone, setting up many scoring opportunities for herself and others. 

Defensively, Marwick forced multiple turnovers with quick and aggressive double teams, stopping opponents from driving 1v1 and jumping on interception opportunities. She was also key in the team's gaining possession of loose balls.

Jordan, a fourth-year psychology major from Chatham, Ont., had 10 catches for a career-high 225 yards in Laurier's 44-24 win at Carleton. He also connected with quarterback Taylor Elgermsa on two touchdowns, including one that went for 74 yards.

It was the second-most receiving yards in a game for a Laurier receiver since Andre Talbot's 289 against Guelph in 2000. 

With his performance, he became the first Golden Hawks receiver to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.

This is the first Athlete of the Week award for Marwick and third for Jordan.
