WATERLOO, Ont. - Golden Hawks Madi Snyder and Yusef Rehman are the Hawk Shop Laurier Athletes of the Week, for the week ending September 29, 2024.
Snyder, a third-year business major from Waterloo, Ont., scored five goals and added an assist in the two games against McGill and Queen's on Sunday.
The former team rookie of the year was also a defensive force in Laurier's 16-4 win over the Marlets, holding their top scorers.
In the team's loss to undefeated Queen's, Snyder scored two late goals to give the Golden Hawks the distinction of scoring more goals against the dominant Gaels than any other team they have faced this season.
Rehman, a first-year kinesiology and physical education major from Milton, Ont. scored his first career OUA goal on Sunday - which also stood up as the game-winner in Laurier's 3-0 road win at Guelph.
A transfer student from York, the midfielder battled through injury and still provided elite shutdown defending through the home-and-home with the Gryphons. He was tasked with man-marking the opposition's top play-maker for both games and shut him down completely, a key reason to holding their divisional rival to just one goal over two matches.
This is the first Athlete of the Week award for Cormier and Rehman.
