BURLINGTON, Ont. - Golden Hawks quarterback Taylor Elgersma has been named Canadian Football Perspective's OUA Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, following Saturday's dominant 69-0 quarterfinal win over Waterloo.
Fresh off a regular season in which he broke several program and conference records, Elgersma gave what might just be his best performance of the season, and he did it only two quarters and change.
After coming out of the game early in the second half, the London, Ont. native's stat line read 360 yards on 20-22 passing with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed in another three touchdowns, giving him six total majors in the contest.
After the game, head coach Michael Faulds described Elgersma's season so far as "some of the best QB play ever seen in U SPORTS history," which is no small statement from the man who graduated as the nation's all-time leader in passing yards.
This is the fourth time this season Elgersma has been named the OUA's Offensive Player of the Week. No other player at any position has earned player of the week honours more than twice.
Windsor's Muftah Ageli and Brady Lidster were named Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.
All three awardees will face off on Saturday when the Lancers visit Laurier for the OUA semifinal. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at University Stadium. Tickets are free for current students courtesy of the Office of VP of Student Affairs. Tickets are limited and must be claimed online before Saturday.
