WATERLOO, Ont. (December 5, 2017) - Men's hockey goaltender
Chris Festarini and women's hockey forward
Emily Visser have been announced as this week's Laurier Hawk Shop Athletes of the Week for the week ending December 3rd, 2017.
Festarini, a third-year native of Oakville, Ont., continued his stellar start to the 2017-18 season as he posted his first career shutout in Laurier's 9-0 School Day Game victory over the Waterloo Warriors. The fourth year business major stopped all 31 shots he faced to help the purple and gold post their first shutout over their crosstown rivals in 15 years. The performance lowered his goals against average to 2.13 and raised his save percentage to 0.932, leaving him ranked third in the conference at the holiday break in both statistical categories.
This is Festarini's second time this season, and the second time in his career, that he has been named the Male Athlete of the Week.
Visser, a first year native of Caledonia, Ont., played a key role in helping the Golden Hawks knock off the nationally-ranked Brock Badgers on Sunday. The environmental studies major picked up the primary assist on the game-tying goal with less than a minute to play in regulation before scoring the overtime winner just 12 seconds into the extra frame to give Laurier a 2-1 victory. The win snapped the Hawks' four-game losing skid and her two points give Visser a team-leading five on the season.
This is Visser's first time earning Female Athlete of the Week honours in her career.
