MISSISSAUGA, Ont. (August 20, 2014) - Wilfrid Laurier women's hockey alumna Candice Styles of Orangeville, Ont., was selected in the fourth round of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) draft by the Toronto Furies on Tuesday night.
Styles was one of 13 CIS players selected in the in the draft and one of five taken by the Furies. Her 17th overall selection was the third highest of any CIS player, trailing only Kim Deschenes and Sophie Brault who were selected from the University de Montreal in the first and third round respectively.
The 5-3 defenceman is coming off an outstanding final season for the Golden Hawks. She finished her career at Laurier registering a career-high 21 points, good for second among all CIS defenders. Styles would go on to be named a CIS First Team All-Canadian for the first time in her career after helping the purple and gold win the OUA Championship.
Following the season, she was recognized with Laurier's President's Award as the top female athlete at the University.
