National Curling Championship Bound

Hollie Nicol and Laura Hickey, members of our Golden Hawks Women's Curling Team along with Hilary McDermott, a student at Laurier and Karen Sagle, and a student at Carleton University captured the Ontario Curling Association (OCA) Junior Women's Provincial title.

The Pepsi Junior Women Championship took place this past week at the Brockville Country Club. The Championship took place yesterday at 10:00 a.m.

The round robin play featured eight teams vying for the Provincial title. After round robin play, the Nicol team held a 6-1 record qualifying them for the semi finals. A win in the semi finals against the Rachel Homan team from Ottawa moved them into the finals against the strong undefeated team of Britanni O'Neill from the Glendale golf & curling club. The final game featured strong play on both teams with an extra end needed to determine the winner.

As Provincial Junior Champions, the Nicol Team now prepares to represent Ontario at the National Junior Women's Championship being hosted at the St. Catherines Golf & Country Club on February 3-11. This event will feature the top Junior Women's teams across Canada competing for the right to represent Canada at the World's.

Our heartiest congratulations to the women for this very special achievement.
