WATERLOO, Ont. - Laurier men's baseball extended their OUA conference winning streak to seven games on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader against the Windsor Lancers with a 6-3 victory in the opener before completing the weekend with a commanding 12-2 win at Bechtel Park in Waterloo.
In Game 1, Laurier erased an early deficit after Windsor opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI single by Jake Colombe.
The Golden Hawks answered immediately when Lucas Bateman doubled down the right-field line to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning.
Laurier moved in front for good in the third as Bateman lifted a sacrifice fly to score a run and give the hosts a 2-1 advantage.
Bateman drove in two runs to lead the Golden Hawks offensively, while Brendan Boys and John Banks each collected two hits.Â
Gavin McLean earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs on six hits over 6.2 innings while striking out four. Jordan Miller recorded the save to close out the victory.
The Golden Hawks carried that momentum into the second game, where a seven-run first inning put Windsor on its heels early.
Jared Wellman opened the scoring with an RBI single before Gabriel Lopez followed with a two-run base hit.
Brendan Boys then broke the game open with a three-run triple as Laurier surged to a commanding lead.
The Golden Hawks added two more runs in the second inning on a Philip Sephton double before extending their advantage further in the third when Lucas Bateman grounded into a fielder's choice to score a run and make it 9-2.
Laurier finished with 12 runs despite recording just seven hits, capitalizing on patience at the plate with seven walks.
Cameron Bendo led the way with three free passes, while the Golden Hawks also swiped three bases.
Boys paced the offence with three RBIs from the ninth spot in the lineup.Â
Aiden Tonge started on the mound for Laurier, striking out three over three innings.
Liam Conlin was credited with the win after holding the Lancers scoreless across two innings of relief.
The Golden Hawks (7-3)Â now enter the final weekend of conference play tied for third place in the OUA standings, one game behind second-place Toronto and two games back of first-place Brock.
