LONDON, Ont. - Laurier baseball closed out a perfect weekend on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader against the Western Mustangs with a 7-3 victory in the opener before rallying for a 9-6 win in game two.

The sweep capped an impressive four-game run, as Laurier won all four contests over the weekend to continue its strong start to the OUA season.

Laurier struck first in game one and never looked back, using timely hitting and a strong effort on the mound from Aiden Tonge to earn the win.

The Golden Hawks opened the scoring in the second inning when Brendan Boys delivered an RBI single.

Laurier gradually built its advantage before pulling away with two insurance runs in the sixth inning. Cole Geldart launched a solo home run to centre field and Cameron Bendo added an RBI single as the Hawks stretched their lead to 7-0.

Tonge earned the win after allowing three runs on four hits over 5.2 innings while striking out three. Jordan Miller closed the door in relief, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Laurier recorded nine hits in the contest, led by Bendo, Boys and Geldart, who each collected two. Boys and Jack Rossetti drove in two runs apiece, while the Hawks played a clean defensive game without committing an error. Lucas Bateman paced the defence with six putouts.

Western scored all three of its runs in the sixth inning but could not overcome the early deficit.

Game two featured far more drama, but the result was the same as Laurier erased a pair of deficits to secure a three-run victory.

The Golden Hawks came out swinging in the first inning. Griffen Duenkler tripled home a run before Jared Wellman and Gabriel Lopez followed with RBI doubles, giving Laurier an early 3-0 lead.

Western responded with a five-run second inning, highlighted by a three-run triple from Parker McLean, to take a 5-3 advantage.

Laurier battled back in the fourth as John Banks delivered an RBI single and Lucas Bateman brought home another run on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 5-5.

After the Mustangs briefly regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning, the Hawks answered decisively in the fifth. RBI singles from Cameron Bendo and Preston Vieira highlighted a three-run frame that put Laurier ahead 8-6 for good.

Jack Rossetti was credited with the win after working four innings in relief. Mattheo Tsebelis played a key role in preserving the lead, allowing just one hit and striking out three over two shutout innings. Jack Comper recorded the save.

Laurier's offence piled up 13 hits, with Duenkler, Bendo, Banks, Wellman and Vieira each recording two-hit performances. Vieira drove in a team-high two runs, while Cole Geldart reached base consistently with three walks as the Hawks drew eight free passes overall.
