WINDSOR, Ont. - Rookie midfielder
Armaan Patel's second career OUA goal catapulted the Golden Hawks to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Windsor Lancers Sunday afternoon.
The result puts the Golden Hawks at 3-1-1 and second in the OUA West division through their first five matches.
Laurier keeper
David Carano put up another great performance, stopping all seven of Windsor's attempts on goal en route to his second clean sheet of the season.
Both teams traded chances during the first half, but strong defence from Laurier's
Divraj Sandhu and Windsor's keeper Nicholas Zanin kept the game deadlocked going into the break.
Laurier opened the scoring in the 67th minute where
Armaan Patel would pot the ball in the far corner from about 20 yards out, after a great run and feed from
Evan Dennis, to give the Golden Hawks a 1-0 lead that they held for the rest of the afternoon.
Â
While being outshot seven to four, the Golden Hawks defense and goalkeeping were able to hold off a late push from the Lancers.
This marks Laurier's second shutout win against Windsor this season as this result marks Laurier's 30th victory over Windsor in program history.
The Golden Hawks come back home to host the winless Brock Badgers (0-3-1) at Ansley Alumni Field on Friday, September 18th at 8:15pm.
