WATERLOO, Ont. - The Laurier Golden Hawks will open their 2026-27 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) women's basketball campaign at home against the defending Critelli Cup champion TMU Bold on October 23, highlighting a 22-game schedule released Tuesday afternoon.
Laurier will look to return to the postseason after narrowly missing out last year, with 12 of its 22 regular-season games set to be played at the Athletic Complex Gym.
The Golden Hawks face an early test out of the gate, beginning the season with three road games in their first four contests. Following their home opener, they travel north for back-to-back games against the Nipissing Lakes in North Bay on October 30 and the Laurentian Voyageurs in Sudbury on October 31.
"We are excited to play with our extremely motivated and young team this year," said Laurier's head coach and manager of women's basketball operations Megan Reid, heading into her second season at the helm. "While beginning the season with road games in three of our first four games may not seem ideal, each game will present new opportunities to learn and grow together, and sometimes the adversity helps a team grow stronger.
"We will be highly energized for each game this year, and with many other teams rebuilding as we are, we will approach those games just as every other game - with purposeful preparation and intention to compete at our best."
Laurier returns to Waterloo on November 6 to host the McMaster Marauders, kicking off a stretch that sees the Golden Hawks play seven of their next eight games on home court. Despite dropping their last four meetings with McMaster, each contest has been tightly contested, including a narrow two-point defeat last season and three losses by two points or fewer over that span.
The following night, Laurier hosts the Carleton Ravens, who have captured two national championships in the past four seasons and advanced to last year's OUA final.
The Golden Hawks close out the fall term with a matchup against the Algoma Thunderbirds, a program Laurier holds a perfect 23-0 record against heading into the season.
Action resumes in the new year with the first Battle of Waterloo clash against the Waterloo Warriors on January 8 at the Athletic Complex. Laurier will look to rebound after being narrowly swept in the rivalry series last season. The second meeting is set for February 5 at Carl Totzke Court.
Laurier's regular season concludes with Senior Night on February 13 against the Western Mustangs.
