WATERLOO, Ont. - Golden Hawks Kate White and Ventsislav Shingarov are the Laurier Athletes of the Week, presented by The Hawk Shop.
White, a fourth-year biology major from Bolton, Ont., left it all on the court against York in Laurier's Senior Night victory.
Last season's team MVP played a season high 34 minutes in the team's 82-70 win. She recorded her second double-double of the season with a 20 point,10 rebound performance and also had two steals.
Her point and rebound total tied her season highs, and she was sharp from distance making four three-pointers that also tied her season high.
White will go down as one of the program's best players. In 83 career games, she sits second in all-time program history in games started (81), second in three-pointers made (145), third in rebounds (506), fourth in steals (145), and seventh in both total points scored (907) and points per game (10.9).
Shingarov, a third-year economics major from Deux-Montagnes, Quebec, had an outstanding performance in the men's hockey team's final regular season game against their Highway 7 rivals, the Guelph Gryphons.
With the Golden Hawks already clinching a playoff berth, there was still plenty to play for, and that was home ice advantage in round one.
Shingarov earned his first start of the season and stood on his head to keep the purple and gold in the game, making 37 saves on 40 shots.
He allowed his team to come back from a 3-1 deficit in the late stages of the third period and came up big on the lone shot faced in overtime as the Golden Hawks completed the comeback, winning 4-3.
This was the fifth career Laurier Athlete of the Week award for White, and the second for Shingarov.
