WATERLOO, Ont. - Golden Hawks Katie Cosgriffe and George Radic are the Laurier Athletes of the Week, presented by The Hawk Shop.
Cosgriffe, a second-year business math major from Burlington, Ont., had multiple record-setting performances at the OUA swimming championships.
The 2024/25 swim team Rookie of the Year became the first S10 woman to break the 30-second mark in the 50m backstroke, placing 13th in the open category with a time of 29.68.
She won gold in both the 100m backstroke and freestyle para races with times of 1:04.25 and 1:01.06, respectively. Her 100m backstroke time was scored as a new Canadian record.
Cosgriffe was also a part of two relay teams. She was the third leg in the 4x100m medley relay that placed sixth. She was the lead-off swimmer in the 4x50m medley relay team that finished eighth.
Radic, a first-year business major from Burlington, Ont., had an impressive debut OUA championship performance, earning 49.5 points contributing to a fifth-place finish for the men's team.
He qualified for the U SPORTS championships in the 400m individual medley back at the Dean Boles Divisional Championships, but significantly improved his time at the conference championships, placing first with a time of 4:21.47. He set a new Laurier record in the race and took two seconds off from his national championship qualifying time.
Radic had top ten finishes in all his races. He came tenth in the 200m butterfly, eighth in the 400m freestyle, and seventh in the 200m individual medley.
He also raced with two relay teams that claimed podium spots. He was the second leg in the 4x200m freestyle relay that finished third with a time of 7:29.64. Radic was the lead-off swimmer in the 4x100m freestyle relay that also claimed bronze and qualified for U SPORTS with a time of 3:22.83.
This was Cosgriffe's fourth Laurier Athlete of the Week award and first for Radic.
