TORONTO, Ont. - The Laurier Golden Hawks swim team carried its momentum into Day 2 of the 2026 OUA swimming championships and delivered an even stronger performance Friday.
Laurier captured four medals - two gold, one silver and one bronze - while advancing 15 swimmers to championship finals.
Katie Cosgriffe struck gold in the para 100-metre backstroke, touching first in an unofficial world-record and official Canadian-record time.
Alec Elliot earned his second gold medal of the meet, winning the para 400-metre freestyle.
John Ryan secured the Golden Hawks' silver medal in the 200-metre breaststroke, setting the fastest time in program history and achieving another U SPORTS qualifying standard.
The men's 4x200-metre freestyle relay - Owen Jibb, George Radic, Jacob Wahba and Will Bryer - claimed bronze in record-setting fashion. The quartet shattered the program mark by more than six seconds and met the U SPORTS qualifying standard.
Finals opened with the 50-metre freestyle. Olivia Francis placed 15th overall after competing in the B final. On the men's side, Greg Hayward won the B final to finish ninth overall.
In the 200-metre breaststroke, three Laurier swimmers advanced to A finals. Olivia Frost placed seventh in the women's event, improving on her preliminary time. Ryan earned silver in the men's race, while Jibb finished eighth.
Wahba placed 12th in the B final of the men's 400-metre freestyle, while Radic finished eighth in the A final.
Emma Young recorded a personal-best swim to place 11th in the B final of the 100-metre backstroke. Andy Jiang and Tyler Greenwood represented Laurier in the men's B final, finishing 11th and 16th, respectively.
Cosgriffe's record-setting performance in the para 100-metre backstroke highlighted the evening session, as she powered to gold in historic fashion.
In the 200-metre individual medley, Eadaoin McGrath placed 15th overall after racing in the B final. On the men's side, Bryer led Laurier with a sixth-place finish in the A final, while Jibb and Radic tied for seventh.
The session concluded with the 4x200-metre freestyle relays. Addison Card, Katarina Brezovan, Catherine Tenai and Hannah Thompson combined for a seventh-place finish on the women's side.
Jibb, Radic, Wahba and Bryer capped the night with their bronze-medal swim, earning a return trip together to the U SPORTS championships.
The Golden Hawks return to the pool Sunday for the final day of competition.
