WATERLOO, Ont. - The Laurier Golden Hawks women's hockey program has climbed three spots to #3 in the latest U SPORTS Top 10 rankings after earning a pair of home victories over Ontario Tech and York this past weekend.
Laurier improved to 3-0-0-1 on the season and now owns an ELO rating of 1629.54, moving up from #6 in last week's rankings.
The climb comes on the heels of a dominant defensive weekend for the Golden Hawks, highlighted by a shutout victory over Ontario Tech before completing the weekend sweep with a win over York as their five-game homestand continued.
The Golden Hawks now trail only #1 UBC and #2 Montreal in the national rankings.
Last season's U SPORTS champion Montreal remains second in the country with a 2-1-0-0 record, while UBC continues to hold the top spot at 3-1-0-0.
Laurier jumped ahead of national finalist Concordia, which slipped to #5, while StFX rounds out the top five.
The Golden Hawks are back in action with a back-to-back on home ice, starting this Friday night when they host the Windsor Lancers at the Waterloo Memorial Rec Complex.
They will follow that up with a tilt against the Western Mustangs on Saturday, with puck drop for both contests scheduled for 7 p.m.
