TORONTO, Ont. -Â The Laurier Golden Hawks swim team travelled to the University of Toronto on the weekend for the Uof T Invitational, gaining valuable racing experience at the pool that will host the 2026 OUA Swimming Championships.
Morning Session
The meet opened with the 200-metre backstroke, where Katie Cosgriffe led the women with a sixth-place finish, followed by Bella Ste. Marie (14th) and Eadaoin McGrath (15th). On the men's side, Carson Pyzer claimed bronze with a third-place result.
In the 50-metre freestyle, Olivia Francis placed 10th and Morgan Pequin finished 16th. Greg Hayward paced the men with another third-place finish, while Tyler Greenwood, Andy Jiang, William Bryer and Daniel Romagnoli finished between 13th and 16th.
George Radic led the Hawks in the 200-metre butterfly, finishing fifth, with Owen Jibb close behind in sixth and Sawyer Kay placing 13th.
Emma Young posted a fifth-place finish in the women's 50-metre backstroke, while Danica Penner finished 16th. Greenwood led the men with a fifth-place result, followed by Pyzer in seventh and Connor Cartier in 12th.
Francis returned to the pool in the women's 100-metre freestyle, finishing 14th. Hayward earned another podium finish for the men, placing third, while Bryer (10th), Jiang (11th) and Romagnoli (14th) rounded out the field for Laurier.
In the 50-metre breaststroke, Olivia Frost finished fifth and Katie Marton placed 10th. John Ryan led the men with a fourth-place finish, with Dylan Murray finishing 12th and Radic 16th.
Francis added a ninth-place result in the 100-metre butterfly. On the men's side, Jiang placed eighth and Caleb Johnston finished 15th.
Young once again led the women in the 100-metre backstroke with a fifth-place finish, followed by Penner (9th), Ste. Marie (11th) and McGrath (14th). Radic recorded another strong performance for the men, finishing fourth, while Jibb placed fifth, Greenwood sixth and Pyzer ninth.
Afternoon Session
The afternoon session began with the 200-metre freestyle, where Addison Card finished eighth and Catherine Tenai placed 15th on the women's side. Liam Telky finished 13th in the men's event.
The meet concluded with the 200-metre individual medley. McGrath finished 10th and Marton placed 14th for the women, while Jibb capped off the day with a standout performance, winning the men's event to claim gold in the final race of the meet.
Laurier will compete in their final meet before provincials - the Brock Invitational - on Saturday, January 31 at the Eleanor Misener Aquatic Centre, St. Catharines.
