WATERLOO, Ont. - Laurier's cross-country team traveled down the street for the Don Mills Invitational at the University of Waterloo.
Â
Unfortunately, it was the Warriors who came out victorious in this year's Battle of Waterloo matchup, although the Golden Hawks put up a good fight, competing hard throughout.
The women's team finished in seventh place, with
Nicole Schindler the top finisher, again, in 20th. Â
Sabrina Arena, battling the competition and a bad cramp, was next in 31st. Â
Piper Lafayette was 42nd, and it was great to see
Tegan Ceccanese running smoothly and strong to finish right behind in 44th. Â
Waterloo native and rookie
Casey Archer snuck into the team's top five with a good race at 52nd, and right behind her was
Alyssa Zinn in 53rd.
Similarly, the men's team finished eighth with
Ian Young, once again, as Laurier's top finisher in 30th.
Nathan Lemire was right behind in 33rd,
Simon Drolet, coming off a great summer triathlon season, came in 36th,
Nolan Kuhlberg was next in 47th, and the fifth runner in was
Tyler Klazek, in 72nd. Â
Adding to the story of the men's results, the two "northern boys" delivered impressive performances. Â
Second-year Lemire from Timmins, Ont., who had his best race as a Golden Hawk so far, really competed throughout the six-kilometre race. Â
Kuhlberg, from Sudbury, ran a great race as well, where it seemed like he was getting faster as the race progressed. Â
The team's top four are rounding into form, while coaches will be looking for a few first and second-year racers to break out at the next race, which is the McMaster Invitational at Bay Front Park in Hamilton on Friday, October 10.
