WATERLOO, Ont. - The #1-ranked Golden Hawks met the #10 Ottawa Gee-Gees in what turned out to be a near upset, but Laurier's defense held strong and came away with the 30-24 win. Â
Here are the Laurier football Players of the Week, presented by Nothers The Award Store, for the team's win:Â
OFFENSEÂ
Ethan Jordan – Wide ReceiverÂ
Jordan has had a phenomenal season thus far. He broke his own personal record once again in the nation's capital with a 93-yard touchdown reception. Jordan was on the other end of two of the Golden Hawks' three touchdowns in the second quarter. Â
He ended the game with 182-yards and a pair of majors. In all five games, Jordan has gone for over 100 receiving yards. He is first in the OUA in total receiving yards (724), yards per game (144.8), and touchdowns (8).Â
This was Jordan's third Player of the Week nomination this season. Â
DEFENSEÂ
Joseph Edlington – Defensive LineÂ
Edlington played a key part in Laurier's defense on Saturday. With a minute and change remaining in the fourth quarter, Edlington brought down Ottawa's quarterback for a loss of seven yards, and was the catalyst for the goal line stand that won the game. Â
The second-year lineman picked up two sacks in the game to put him at four on the season. Â
This was Edlington's first career Player of the Week award. Â
SPECIAL TEAMSÂ
Dawson Hodge – Kicker/PunterÂ
Hodge has been as reliable as he can be five games into the season, and consistently put the Golden Hawks in good field position. On Laurier's opening drive, his 46-yard punt resulted in the Gee-Gees conceding the safety. Â
He was four for four on extra points, while his six punts collected 274-yards with two in the 20-yard line, and his five kickoffs combined for 151-yards. Â
This was Hodge's second Player of the Week nod this season. Â
SCOUT TEAMÂ
The Laurier football scout team Players of the Week are Denzel Robertson (WR) on offense, Best Kome Egbamuno (DB) on defense, and Nick Honchar (RB) on special teams. Â
