Box Score NORTH YORK, Ont. -Â The Laurier Golden Hawks men's soccer team kicked off their season with a tough 2-0 road loss against the York Lions on Thursday night.
Despite a determined defensive effort, Laurier struggled to match York's offensive pressure, ultimately conceding a pair of goals in the second half.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, York broke through in the 62nd minute when James Fidalgo found the net off a pass from Christian Zeppieri.
The Lions doubled their lead just six minutes later, as Anthony Morano capitalized on a Matthew Fischer assist to make it 2-0.

David Carano stood tall throughout the match, recording nine saves as York peppered the Golden Hawks' net with 22 shots.
Laurier, meanwhile, managed six shots, with only two coming in the first half.
The Golden Hawks' offense was unable to break through York's backline, with the Lions' keeper making four saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The purple and gold will look to regroup and find their scoring touch as they prepare for the second leg of their home-and-home with the Lions in their season opener on Sunday night.
The kickoff at Ansley Alumni Field is set for 6:15 p.m., and admission is free.
