Battle of Waterloo home game shifting to Warrior Field

WATERLOO, Ont. - Laurier Athletics & Recreation and University of Waterloo Athletics & Recreation have come to an agreement that will allow the Golden Hawks football team to shift its Week 4 home game against the Warriors, scheduled for Saturday, September 13 at 1 pm, to Warrior Field.

The venue change was made to ensure a safe and high-quality experience, allowing time for the completion of the new elevated stands at University Stadium and the necessary safety reviews and approvals.

"We're very grateful to Director of Athletics Roly Webster and University of Waterloo Athletics & Recreation for agreeing to provide us with this temporary solution and the OUA for their collaboration as we continue to finalize our efforts to enhance the game day experience at University Stadium," said Kate McCrae Bristol, Laurier's Director of Athletics & Recreation.

"At Laurier, our limited space means we can't simply construct a new facility beside an existing one. As we embarked on this project, we understood that building on the current site would come with its challenges. However, isn't this the essence of being part of the Laurier community? We persevere and adapt, even when circumstances aren't ideal," said McCrae Bristol.

"What fuels our enthusiasm is the awareness that we're steadily advancing toward our ultimate goal, and bit by bit, all Golden Hawks can witness this vision coming to life."

Since Laurier will remain the "home" team of record, online ticket sales will continue to be operated solely by Laurier Athletics & Recreation at tickets.laurierathletics.com.

Tickets can also be purchased on-site on game day at the UW ticket booth.

Single-game and Laurier football season tickets already purchased for the game through Laurier Athletics will be honoured, and no further action is required.

UW season tickets are not valid for this game.

A ticket cap of 3,500 will be set for Warrior Field, which is just a six-minute drive from University Stadium, located on Columbia St. W between Westmount Rd. and Hagey Blvd.

Free parking will be available on game day at the X Lot on Hagey Blvd.

"As we continue this journey of ongoing improvements over the next few years, we remain committed to prioritizing the competitive spirit and resilience of our athletes, coaches, and programs," said McCrae Bristol. "Together, we will build a vision that not only enhances our legacy but also inspires excellence at every level."
