Megan Reid named Laurier women’s basketball head coach

WATERLOO, Ont. - Laurier Athletics has announced Megan Reid as the head coach of the Golden Hawks women's basketball team ahead of the 2025-26 season.

"I'm excited to have Megan lead our women's basketball program into this new chapter," said Director of Athletics and Recreation, Kate McCrae Bristol. "With her impressive track record, passion for the game, and commitment to fostering the growth of our student-athletes, she clearly embodies the Golden Hawks spirit of excellence."

Reid becomes the 12th head coach in program history and steps in after 17-year head coach Paul Falco retired at the conclusion of last season.

"Megan's passion for student-athlete development, combined with her energy and forward-thinking approach, makes her the ideal leader to elevate the future of our women's basketball program," said Associate Director of Interuniversity Sport, Ryan Lannan

Reid comes to the Golden Hawks after spending eight seasons with the Guelph Gryphons, splitting her tenure as assistant and head coach. In her three seasons as Guelph's head coach, Reid led the team to a 47-19 regular season record and went 3-3 in the playoffs.

This past spring, Reid was a head coach at the 2025 Pro Can Women's Professional Basketball Showcase.

A year prior, Reid led the Nike Next Ones Up Regional Girls Team Red, as part of the The All Canadian Games - touted as the country's premiere high school all-star basketball showcase.

She also spent eight seasons as the associate head coach of the Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball program in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) from 2009-2017.

As a student-athlete, Reid played for the York Lions and the Western Mustangs. She was part of the Mustangs squad that made back-to-back trips to nationals and won a U SPORTS bronze medal.

"I'm thrilled to be part of Laurier's high-performance culture and excited to work with (full-time assistant) coach Laura Vere to build on the traditions and foundations that coach Paul Falco created during his tenure," said Reid.

"It's a privilege to work with the value driven student-athletes that are part of this women's basketball program; women motivated to succeed in the classroom, in relationships and on the court."

She assumes her role on July 7 with the 2025-26 OUA basketball season tipping off in October.
