TORONTO, Ont. - The Golden Hawks' success continued on day two of the U SPORTS swimming championships.
In the prelims session, Owen Jibb finished 16th in the 200m breaststroke. Jibb's swim was a new personal best time and team record. taking down the oldest record on the books set 22 years ago in 2003. Jibbs' time also also secured him a spot in the 'B' final.
After the race, Laurier swimming head coach Cathy Pardy stated, "(I'm) Incredibly happy for him. I appreciate that he took my feedback from before the race and applied it."
Near the end of the session, Kent Goni Avila and Owen Jibb raced in the same heat of the 200m IM.
Jibb finished 19th overall before he was disqualified for an improper backstroke-breaststroke turn.
Goni Avila finished first overall, beating all the competition in the event which put him in the 'A' final. Goni Avila's 1:59.61 was a new personal best time and team record.
Jibb was the first Golden Hawk in the water during the finals session when he raced the 200m breaststroke to a 16th-place finish after a back-and-forth battle.

Goni Avila was up next against a stacked 'A' final including Canadian record holder, world champion, and Olympian, Finlay Knox. Goni Avila raced hard and soared to the wall third overall in a new team record time.
The bronze medal is Laurier's first at the U SPORTS championships for a men's swimmer since 2001 when Spencer Cowan won gold in the 50m breaststroke.
The Hawks ended the day in 13th place out of 25 teams.
