NORTH YORK, Ont. - Much of Laurier's indoor track and field team travelled to the Toronto Track & Field Centre for the York Invitational this past weekend.
There were many highlights of a very successful meet. The team's 600m runners stepped up with personal bests almost across the board. Â
Alyssa Zinn ran a speedy time of 1:36.60 to place second and
Maya Robinson also ran a great race to finish in 1:42.88. Â
On the men's side,
Nolan Kuhlberg ran 1:23.48 to place fifth.
Abby Byers and
Anisah Sabree went out very hard and finished with just 1/100 of a second between them.  Their times of 42:80 and 42.81 placed them eighth and ninth. Â
In the short sprints, Giulianna Mascitti made the finals and ran a new personal best of 8:06 to finish 13th overall in a very competitive 60m event.
Piper Lafayette continued her very strong season, placing second in the 1,500m with a time of 4:46. 33.
On the relay side, our men's 4 x 200m was our top team, placing second. The team of
Luke Campbell,
Declan Di Frangia,
Peter Filice, and
Russel Allen finished with a time of 1:32.60.Â
In the men's 4 x 400m, we had a sprint-based team run against the middle distance-based team and it was quite the battle. Â
The sprint-based team sneaked in coming third overall and the middle distance-based team was just behind in fourth overall with only .49 of a second separating the two teams. Â
The sprint team was
Luke Campbell,
Justice Sewitt,
Declan Di Frangia and
Peter Filice and the middle distance team was made up of
Finn Moore,
Chad Thorpe,
Nolan Kuhlberg and
Braydon Trowbridge. Â
Of special note, Trowbridge ran his leg within 30 minutes of finishing his 1,500m race.
In addition, our women's 4 x 400m ran great to finish third overall in 4:09.74.  The team was made up of
Abby Byers,
Anisah Sabree,
Alyssa Zinn and
Maya Robinson.
The team will now split time between the Hal Brown, Ravens, and Gryphons Last Chance meets next weekend in final preparation for the OUA Track & Field Championships.Â
