WATERLOO, Ont. - The #1-ranked Golden Hawks handed the #2 Western Mustangs a 60-13 defeat on Saturday to remain the only undefeated team in the country and earned a first-round playoff bye. Â
Here are the Laurier football Players of the Week, presented by Nothers The Award Store, for the team's win:Â
OFFENSEÂ
Cal Wither – QuarterbackÂ
Wither put on a dominant performance against the Mustangs. He went 24-34 for 352-yards, five passing touchdowns, and no interceptions. It was the fourth time on record in program history that a quarterback has thrown five touchdowns in a single game. Â
Wither also set a new program record in single season passing touchdowns with 26, surpassing the previous mark of 23 set by Bill Kubas in 1994. Â Â Â
This was Wither's third Player of the Week award.Â
DEFENSEÂ
Maliek Cote – Defensive BackÂ
Cote kept his stellar defensive play going on Saturday, and continues to be a cornerstone of the Laurier defense, playing all eight games thus far and 41 in his Golden Hawk career. Â
He had 4.5 tackles, three solo and three assists, along with a team high two pass break-ups. Cote helped limit a powerful Mustangs offense to only 258 total yards. Â
This was Cote's second Player of the Week nomination this season. Â
SPECIAL TEAMSÂ
Jaxon Stebbings – ReceiverÂ
Stebbings had quite the day on the special teams and offensive fronts. He had one solo tackle on special teams and sparked the Laurier offense with the first touchdown of the game. Â
He ended his day with a season high six receptions, 61-yards, and his second touchdown of the season. Stebbings set a new career high in regular season receiving yards with 257. Â Â
This was Stebbings'Â second career Player of the Week nod. Â
