POINTE-CLAIRE, Que. Two days of the U SPORTS swimming championship have been completed.
During the prelim session,
Kent Goni Avila raced the first event of the morning which was the 50m freestyle, where he finished 13th overall qualifying him for the B Final.
Right after,
Owen Jibb stepped up for his first event of the morning. He raced to a 35th-place finish in the 200m breaststroke.
After a well-deserved break, Jibb was back in the water for the 200m individual medley, where he finished 29th overall - just over a second away from a second swim.
"My times today were close to my personal bests and I'm happy with that," said Jibb after his pair of races. "The 1500m is (Saturday) and that's my focus."
The final event of the morning was the 50m butterfly, which saw Goni Avila finish seventh overall, qualifying him for the A Final while at the same time getting a new personal best in a new team record time.
Goni Avila got the finals session started with the 50m freestyle, where he raced in the B final, finishing 14th overall.
Goni Avila's second swim was the A final of the 50m butterfly where he set a new personal best time and team record of 24.94 - only 0.5 seconds away from the podium.
The Golden Hawk men currently sit in 14th place overall.
The final day of racing begins Saturday at 9:30 am.
