Ethan Jordan first Laurier receiver to reach 1,000 yards in a season

WATERLOO, Ont. - A record that's distinctly his own.

Laurier student-athlete Ethan Jordan became the first receiver in the 63-year history of the Golden Hawks football program to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a single season on Saturday, attaining that total exactly to the yard in the team's final regular season game in Ottawa against the Carleton Ravens.

In setting the new Laurier record at a level never attained by any previous Golden Hawk, the fourth-year psychology major from Chatham, Ont. broke Kurleigh Gittens Jr.'s benchmark of 953 yards in 2017.

Jordan also became just the 18th receiver in U SPORTS history to record at least 1,000 yards in a season by hauling in 10 catches for a single-game career-high of 225 yards, which was also the second-most in a game for a Laurier receiver behind only Andre Talbot's 289 against Guelph in 2000.

The last student-athlete to reach the 1,000-yard plateau nationally was the Waterloo Warriors' Tyler Ternowski with 1,159 in 2018.

Jordan had just set his previous career-high last year when he recorded 749. He finishes this season as the nation's best receiver in yards, receptions (59), yards per game (125), and touchdowns (10).

With 2,392 career receiving yards over just three seasons, Jordan now ranks third all-time among Laurier receivers, with Gittens Jr. (2,682) and Stefan Ptaszek (3,126) the only ones left to catch.
