WATERLOO, Ont. - The Golden Hawks continued to pile up goals on Friday night, with many players stepping up offensively to secure a 5-1 win against the RMC Paladins at the Constantine Arena in Kingston.
Beginning their first road trip of the season, Laurier assistant captain Sam Rhodes scored a shorthanded goal just over halfway through the first period - and it was a beauty.
Rhodes' first of the season was off a breakaway where he beat the Paladins goalie Michael Davis with a backhand straight into the net.
Laurier starting goaltender Tristan Malbeouf had no problems in his crease, making big saves during five RMC powerplays. He ended the night having made 37 on 38 shots.
A perfect pass from Callum Chisolm early into the second gave Tyler Davis his first goal of the season; an absolute bullet into the top corner.
RMC's Brent Broaders caught Malbeouf off guard and tipped one in to make it a one-goal game just before the halfway mark in the period.
Davis stayed hot, scoring his second of the night just eight minutes after his first to restore the Golden Hawks' two-goal lead.
It was a night of many firsts, as Thomas Lenart broke the ice in the third with a fake on the Paladins goalie Davis and backhand to give himself his first goal of the season.
Davis finished the third period with an empty net goal to secure his first OUA hat-trick and a big win for the Golden Hawks.
