Laurier bumped to #2 in U SPORTS football rankings

This Golden Hawks National Rankings Update is presented by Westpoint Sports

RICHMOND HILL, Ont. - The four-week run has come to an end.

Officially the second-longest run atop the national rankings in program history, Laurier was bumped to the #2 spot in the latest U SPORTS football Top 10 rankings despite clinching first place in the OUA after beating #8 Windsor on Friday night.

Montreal's OT win over Laval over the weekend proved to carry more weight, resulting in the Golden Hawks having to cede their recent positioning to the Carabins.

Despite falling behind the defending Vanier Cup champions after four weeks, Laurier remains one of just two undefeated teams in U SPORTS, with Bishop's being the other.

The Golden Hawks will have the opportunity to close out a perfect regular season for the first time since 2005 on Saturday at Carleton. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 pm.

Western (#3), Guelph (#7), and Queen's (#10) round out the other OUA schools named in the latest rankings.

U SPORTS uses the ELO rating system to calculate its weekly national rankings. ELO calculates team rankings on a game-by-game basis, using an algorithm that generates a statistical calculation based on certain customized variables adapted across the range of U SPORTS team sports.

The Top 10 in football is generated by a combination of ELO rankings and a media poll, each component worth 50 percent of the final total.
