This past weekend the Laurier sailing team had the opportunity to compete at the CAN/AM cup, hosted by Queens University in Kingston. The event brought mixed conditions, with a strong northwest breeze which grew throughout the weekend making champagne sailing conditions.  

Throughout the two days of racing both Laurier A and B-fleet teams battled it out for the top spots with the A-fleet team of Willa Cuthbertson and Kyle Feeney taking home a race win on the first day, and the B-fleet team of Calvin Groen and Mica Shatil securing top five finishes which left the team just out of the podium on the first day. 

On the second day, the breeze was up, and the team was ready to go. The A-fleet team was able to continue with strong performances and finish third place in their fleet. The B-fleet team was able to elevate their performance with three wins in five races by taking advantage of the strong breeze and Mica's athleticism. After the second and final day of racing, both teams had worked their way to securing spots on the podium just behind the host school Queens.  

Overall, the team had a great start to the season and is looking forward to competing in Toronto this weekend before travelling to Montreal events in October.  

Overall Result:  

A-Fleet – 3rd place 

B-Fleet – 2nd place 

School Result – 2nd place
