Men's Lacrosse The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's lacrosse team wrapped up regular season play this weekend with two games. They headed into the weekend with the hope of collecting some points to avoid playing the first place and undefeated Brock Badgers in the first round of playoffs. A slow start against McMaster on Friday night saw the Marauders take a 7-0 lead. 5 straight Hawk goals got Laurier back in the game but a questionable 4th quarter penalty lead to the Marauders' only second half goal and an 8-6 final.
In game 2 Sunday night vs The University of Toronto Blues the Golden Hawks played a very competitive first half but were down 2-1 at the end of one quarter, and 4-2 end of the second. Injuries to key Hawk players tilted the field in the second half with the Blues winning out 12-4.
The Golden Hawks will open the playoffs in St. Catharines against the Badgers this Friday night, November 1, at 8:00 p.m.
Sailing The Laurier sailing club competed in their last regatta of the season over the weekend at the Fleet Nationals where they finished sixth.
Equestrian Laurier Equestrian sent a small but mighty group of Hawks to MJM Equestrian in Hannon, Ont. on Sunday, October 27th for the third show of the season.
In Open over fences Riley Buitenhuis finished second; team co-captain, Megan Bagley earned a seventh-place finish in Novice under saddle; while Morgan Altman placed sixth in Entry under saddle.
The team looks forward to a few weekends of rest before returning to MJM for a show hosted by McMaster on November 17th.
