Golden Hawks earn back-to-back wins over Lancers

WINDSOR, Ont. - Different day, same result for Laurier's women's hockey team as they secured back-to-back road wins in Windsor after defeating the Lancers 2-0 on Saturday night.

After winning the first match-up at the Capri Ice Complex less than 24 hours earlier 5-3, the Golden Hawks were looking to complete the weekend sweep. On the back of another big night from Kylie Laliberte and a Kayla Renaud's second shutout of the season. the purple and gold left the border city with another victory, this one being the team's third shutout of the season.

Although the first twenty minutes remained scoreless, it was a penalty-filled period, especially for the Golden Hawks. The Lancers had numerous chances to score while on the woman-advantage, but the Golden Hawks depended on their goalie, Kayla Renaud, to rescue them from these tough situations. This was Renaud's second game of the regular season, and she came to play, making some huge saves throughout the entire game.

Just over halfway through the second period, Windsor took a hooking penalty to give the Golden Hawks a powerplay. Laurier defenders Kylie Laliberte and Brianna Bowman exchanged the puck back-and-forth across the blue line, until Laliberte took a shot from the point that found the back of the net.

Not long after, Windsor took another penalty, for unsportsmanlike conduct, which cost them another goal, scored by Elle Spencer.

Going into the third period up by two goals, the Golden Hawks continued to battle it out against the Lancers. With the intensity of the game increasing, both the Golden Hawks and the Lancers took penalties in the final frame.

With four minutes remaining in the game, the Lancers pulled their goalie in a last-minute attempt to join the scoreboard. However, Renaud and the Golden Hawks stayed strong and secured the shutout.

The Golden Hawks extended their winning streak to six consecutive games and are now 6-1 in their season. Laurier remains in first place in the OUA West division heading into two home games this weekend.
