WINDSOR, Ont. - The Golden Hawks traveled out of town to take on the Windsor Lancers on Friday night.
The game began with a back-and-forth between both teams. Just 46 seconds into the game, the Lancers got on the scoreboard first.
Laurier tied it up two minutes later, as Brianna Bowman fed a pass to Grace Sumi for her first career OUA goal.
With just less than six minutes left in the first, a scramble in front of the net cost the Golden Hawks a goal, forcing them to enter the second period of the game down by one.
Four minutes into the second period, the Lancers fumbled the puck in front of their net, allowing Kylie Laliberte to grab an unassisted goal for her first of the season.
Halfway through the frame, the Lancers took a holding penalty, giving the Golden Hawks their third powerplay of the game.
Arielle MacDonald and Claire Robinson demonstrated excellent passing across the blue line, and it was MacDonald that got a shot on net. The rebound was put home by Hayley Szymanowski, securing her first goal of the season. This gave the Golden Hawks the lead for the first time in the game.
Just minutes later, the Lancers tied things up again.
The Lancers then took a tripping penalty, giving the Golden Hawks another power play opportunity, which Elle Spencer took full advantage of, tapping in the rebound from Kylie Laliberte.
Late in the third period, the Golden Hawks took two overlapping penalties, allowing the Lancers a five-on-three advantage. Luckily, Acadia Carlson bailed the Golden Hawks out in the final minutes of play with a few huge saves.
Laurier held the lead for the rest of the game, with Clare Robinson locking in the fifth and final goal for the Golden Hawks in the empty net.
The Golden hawks continue their winning streak and are now 5-1 in their season. They remain in first place in the OUA West division.
