WATERLOO, Ont. – On Halloween night, the Golden Hawks hosted the Waterloo Warriors at the annual Battle of Waterloo swim meet.
The Golden Hawks got things started with a third, fifth, and sixth place finish in the women's 4x50m medley relay.Â
Next up in the water for the women was the 50m butterfly, which saw
Abby Marshall finish sixth overall with a new personal best time, Alyse Borges finish ninth, and
Camryn Payne finish thirteenth overall.Â
The Golden Hawks had a strong showing in the 200m backstroke, with Tara Tavoularis, Katarina Brezovan and
Morgan Pequin finishing fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.Â
After that, rookie Olivia Francis finished second overall in the 50m freestyle, followed by Alyse Borges, Megan Smith, Olivia Purdy, and
Kenzy Khattab, finishing fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh overall.Â
Marshall,
Maxeen Mullen, and Purdy competed in the 100m breaststroke, finishing fourth, seventh and eighth overall.Â
The first female podium of the night was Borges, finishing second while Pequin finished fourth in the 50m freestyle. Shortly after was the 100m freestyle, which saw Brezovan and Megan Smith finish seventh and eighth overall.Â
In the 200 individual medley, Francis and Purdy finished third and fourth overall.Â
Next was the 50m breaststroke, where Marshall, Tavoularis, Mullen, and Catherine Tenai finish fourth through seventh, in that order.Â
The Golden Hawks had been chasing another podium spot and Smith delivered, finishing third overall in the 100m butterfly. Then it was time for the 200m freestyle in which Francis finished sixth, Brezovan finished seventh, and Khattab finished ninth overall.Â
More podium finishes were secured thanks to Tavoularis, who was second in the 100m backstroke, with Pequin and
Laura Scolaro finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.Â
Shortly after, the Hawks made it back-to-back races with podium finishes as Mullen touched second overall in the 200m breaststroke with the whole pool cheering her on.Â
The women wrapped up their night with a third, fifth and sixth place finishes in the 4x50m freestyle relay.Â
The men started their night off with a second, fifth and sixth place finishes in the 4x50m medley relay.Â
In the first individual event of the night Kent Goni found the podium with a third place finish in the 50m butterfly, followed closely by
Brett Moroz and Will Bryer, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.Â
In the 200m backstroke Tyler Greenwood and Connor Cartier finished seventh and eighth overall. Next up was the 50m freestyle which saw
Daniel Romagnoli, Bryer and Jacob Wahba finish fourth, sixth and seventh overall.Â
Dylan Thomas was the next Golden Hawk to find the podium with a third place finish in the 100m breaststroke, with Owen Jibb finishing sixth overall. Shortly after, Tyler Greenwood just narrowly missed the podium, with a close fourth place finish in the 50m backstroke.Â
The 100m freestyle podium was golden as Goni and Romagnoli finished first and third. The podium finishes continued with Bryer capturing second place in the 200m individual medley.Â
Laurier kept the hot streak alive with Thomas finishing third in the 50m breaststroke and
Kelton Langman finishing sixth overall.Â
In the 100m butterfly, which saw Romagnoli, Marty Konecny, Goni and Nolan Pittman finish fifth, seventh, eighth, and ninth overall.Â
The purple and gold were still after the podium and Jibb delivered a second place finish in the 200m freestyle with team mates Wahba,
Cezar Hirsescu, Ethan Handy, Thomas and Moroz all finishing close together placing fourth to ninth, respectively.Â
In the 100m backstroke, Greenwood,
Benjamin Cameron, Langman and Cartier finished fifth, eighth, ninth and tenth overall.Â
For the last individual race of the night, Jibb and Dylan Murray finished fourth and fifth overall in the 200m breaststroke.Â
The last event of the night was the 4x50m freestyle relay, which saw the Hawks finish second, fifth and sixth overall, closing off a successful night of racing.Â
