Golden Hawks conquer #10 Warriors in battle of Waterloo

WATERLOO, Ont. - After winning back-to-back games on the weekend, the Golden Hawks were looking to extend their winning streak, which is exactly what happened during the battle of Waterloo on Wednesday night. The Golden Hawks pulled off a 3-1 win over the #10 Waterloo Warriors.

The game began with an even battle as the play moved back-and-forth between both ends of the ice. Late in the period, Laurier proved their mettle when they killed their first penalty of the game. No goals were scored in the first.

The second period remained scoreless, however Laurier had several chances to be first on the scoreboard with three power plays during the frame. With the Golden Hawks unsuccessful on the power plays, the game was tied up going into the final frame of the game.

Just over a minute into the third period, Christina McCulloch secured the first goal of the game, assisted by Grace Sumi and Emerie Maltby.

Halfway through the period, the Warriors tied it up again.

The Golden Hawks were quick to regain their lead as Kamryn Szumlinski scored her first OUA goal, and the eventual game-winning goal, just minutes later.

With a few minutes remaining, the Warriors pulled their goalie in a last-ditch effort to tie it up, however the Golden Hawks seized this opportunity and Elle Spencer extended the lead to 3-1.

Laurier improves to 3-1 on the season, moving into a tie for first place in the OUA West with the previously undefeated Warriors.
