KINGSTON, Ont. - The Laurier Golden Hawks made it back-to-back wins on Saturday night after getting shutout goaltending in a 1-0 victory over the Queen's Gaels. Â
Having opened their weekend with a 4-1 win at Ontario Tech Ridgebacks the night prior, the Golden Hawks were looking to complete the weekend sweep at the Memorial Centre.Â
The Gaels and Golden Hawks came out looking to secure their second win of the season, as they were both sitting at 1-1.Â
With backup netminder
Kayla Renaud between the pipes, Laurier opened the scoring just 2:44 into the game when
Eryn Wolfe found the back of the net for her first career OUA goal.
Â
Renaud, making her season debut for the Golden Hawks, provided some big saves throughout the entire game en route to a career-high 33 and her first OUA shutout. The second-year kinesiology & physical education major from Amherstburg, Ont. was sharp from the start, making 17 stops on the Gaels in the opening frame.
With both teams going goalless on two powerplay opportunities each, Â Queen's pulled their goalie for an extra attacker in the dying moments of the game, but Renaud and the Golden Hawks shut the door.Â
The result was the first win at Queen's and shutout of the Gaels since 2015.
Laurier will wrap up its slate of three straight road games with a Battle of Waterloo match-up at the Columbia Ice Fields on Wednesday, October 25. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.Â
