WATERLOO, Ont. - Facing the Waterloo Warriors for the first time this season, Laurier's men's hockey team fell behind early and couldn't make up ground in a 6-2 road loss on Friday night.
The Golden Hawks opened the game with a penalty just 47 seconds into the game. Waterloo took immediate advantage when Tate Popple tipped a point shot from Nick King past Laurier goaltender
Christian Propp to open the scoring.
The Warriors struck again five minutes later. Brendan Bowie put the puck into the top of the net after it popped out from under a pile of bodies in front of Laurier's crease for his first career OUA goal.
Laurier got a few scoring opportunities on a powerplay shortly after, but would ultimately be unsuccessful and went into the first intermission trailing by two.
The second period began with a Laurier powerplay that would (again) be unsuccessful despite having multiple scoring chances.
Warriors rookie Liam Fedak also scored his first OUA goal tonight, finishing a two-on-one and putting his team up 3-0.
After Waterloo's fourth goal of the night, Interim Head Coach and Manager of Men's Hockey Operations
Kevin Forrest elected to pull Propp fom the game. Propp turned away 10 of the 14 shots he faced.
Matthew Dunsmoor replaced him and was immediately welcomed into the game with a Waterloo breakaway.
Sullivan Sparkes finally put Laurier on the board, finishing a pretty passing play after
Adrian Nabuurs delivered the puck to him on the doorstep. The goal was Sparkes' first of the year.
Waterloo scored their fifth goal of the game from a tight angle on a powerplay. Jacob Cascagnette scored less than a minute later, making the game 6-1.
The third period was filled with penalties. Both teams had multiple chances to cash in on the man advantage, but Laurier would be the only team to strike when
Adrian Nabuurs delivered a perfect pass to
Chayse Herrfort back door. With the assist, Nabuurs extended his point streak to five games.
