Beach, Elgersma named Laurier Athletes of the Week

WATERLOO, Ont. - Golden Hawks women's cross country runner Nicole Beach and football quarterback Taylor Elgersma are the Laurier Bookstore Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 31, 2022.

Beach, a third-year student-athlete, ran her best race of the season at the OUA Championship this past Saturday in London. The native of Grimsby, Ont., led the team to a 9th place finish - which was only five points short of booking a spot at this year's U SPORTS Cross Country Championship in Halifax.

The kinesiology & physical education major started conservatively and eventually passed other runners as the race progressed, placing 38th overall with a time of 33:13 on the 8 km course.

This is Beach's first career Laurier Athlete of the Week award.

Making his first OUA playoff appearance this past Saturday, Taylor Elgersma threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns in #9 Laurier's 41-13 quarter-final win over the Carleton Ravens.

The kinesiology & physical education major from London, Ont. completed 21 of his pass 28 attempts, including his longest of the day to Raidan Thorne that went for 54 yards.

He kept the stat sheet clean with no interceptions while spreading the ball around to five different receivers - two of which (Thorne and Ethan Jordan) who finished the game with over 90 yards each.

This is Elgersma's second career Laurier Athlete of the Week award.
