WHKY can't solve Waterloo goaltender in shutout loss

Box Score

WATERLOO, Ont. - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s hockey team dropped their second consecutive Battle of Waterloo 2-0 on Saturday night at the Columbia Ice Fields.

Laurier came into the second-half of the season-opening home-and-home against the Warriors looking to rebound from a 3-1 loss to Waterlooon this past Wednesday. Ironically, a power-play scoring opportunity was the deciding factor again in the match-up.

Laurier started strong as netminder Cohen Myers (Shakespeare, Ont.) was tested early but proved to be a brick wall.

However, the purple and gold were skating on thin ice after finding themselves on a 5-on-3 penalty kill. Megan Fergusson (Kitchener, Ont.), a former NCAA player from Merrimack College, opened the scoring fifteen minutes into the opening frame.

A scoreless forty-eight minutes of play gave the Hawks hope for the equalizer late in the third, but Keiara Raitt (Ancaster, Ont.) sealed the deal with the empty netter.

Waterloo native Mikayla Schnarr stopped all 14 shots that she faced to record the shutout for the Warriors.. For Laurier, Myers turned aside all but one of the 31 shots faced.
