Wilfrid Laurier University's Athletics and Recreation Department is pleased to announce two new additions to its team; Evan Colborne as Manager of Marketing and Communications and Dan Polischuk as Sports Information and Communications Coordinator. Both have officially assumed their duties.
Colborne joins the Golden Hawks after serving as the Director of Marketing and Strategy with Cosmos Sports and Entertainment. His role with Cosmos had him lead agency strategy, operations, and new business development efforts. Colborne was also an integral part of launching the Brampton Beast (East Coast Hockey League) franchise, where he led operational strategy and marketing throughout its run.
"I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity than with the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks," Colborne said. "It didn’t take long to recognize that the team is made up of highly talented and passionate people. I can't wait to start becoming a regular contributor to the team's successes."
"With my start aligning with the return of athletics and live events has added another level of energy and excitement. It is such an exciting time for the Golden Hawks and university sport in general," he said.
As a Laurier alum and graduate of the Communications Studies program, Polischuk returns to campus after most recently serving as the Media and Communications Manager for the Kitchener Rangers (Ontario Hockey League) and Marketing Manager for the KW Titans (National Basketball League of Canada).
Polischuk has maintained strong ties to the university, having done play-by-play for Laurier football broadcasts (among various varsity sports) over the past decade on Rogers TV, AM 570 News, and OUA.tv. He has also been a regular contributor to the sports pages of the Kitchener Post and Waterloo Chronicle.
"I'm thrilled to join the Golden Hawks and support the talented student-athletes and coaches in this role," Polischuk said. "For me, Laurier holds a special connection. I have a deep appreciation for the contributions of those involved with the program, past and present. I also know first-hand the hard work happening behind the scenes to have it regarded as one of the top athletic departments in Canada."
"I can't wait to start contributing my experience and skill-set to this team effort."
KP Anand, Laurier’s Associate Director, Business Development and Operations described Colborne and Polischuk as having a wealth of experience in marketing and communications "with a focus on building community".
“Both Evan and Dan bring a proven track record of engaging diverse community members while developing innovative programs and opportunities that will surely have a positive impact on the Laurier student experience immediately.”
