WATERLOO, Ont. (September 9, 2019) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's football team have announced their players of the week following the team's Week 3 defeat to the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday night.
OFFENCE
Starting Offensive Line - Bryce Bell, Drew Mairleitner, JD Richardson, Braydon Noll, Isaiah AdamsThe Golden Hawks entire starting offensive line, including

JD Richardson of Burlington, Ont.,
Braydon Noll of Orangeville, Ont., and
Isaiah Adams of Ajax, Ont., were honoured following another strong performance from the group. Their play directly resulted in Laurier's best rushing performance of the year as the team put up 267 yards on the ground against the Blues. They also provided great protection for quarterback
Connor Carusello of Caledonia, Ont., as Toronto failed to register a sack on the Hawks' pivot.
DEFENCE
Brad Cowan - LinebackerFor the second consecutive game, Cowan, a native of Ottawa, is Laurier's defensive player of the week after being a force up front for the purple and gold. The third-year communication studies major was shifting from linebacker to defensive end throughout the contest as Toronto regularly put six receivers out on the field. His presence on the defensive line was felt throughout as he helped put great pressure on Toronto quarterback Clay Sequeira, finishing the game with a sack, giving him 2.5 on the year. He also added 3.5 tackles, giving him 12.5 on the year.
This marks the second time this season, and second time in his career, that Cowan has been named Laurier's Defensive Player of the Week.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Tanner Nelmes - CoverNelmes, a native of Guelph, Ont., continued his strong start to his career on special teams for the Golden Hawks. For the second straight game, the first-year sociology major recorded a blocked punt, as he knocked down a Blues punt early in the first quarter before picking it up and returning in 42 yards for his first career touchdown in the OUA. Nelmes, third on Laurier's running back depth chart on Saturday, also had two rushes for nine yards.
This marks the first time in his career that Nelmes has been named Laurier's Special Teams Player of the Week.
