WATERLOO, Ont. (April 23, 2019) – Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's football defensive lineman
Robbie Smith has been named as the recipient of a Golden Hawk Football Scholarship with funds supported by the annual
Gary Jeffries Golf Classic.
The Golden Hawk Football Scholarship recognizes an eligible member of the Golden Hawk's football team who is in good academic standing and exemplifies community service, ambassadorship and leadership. Proceeds from the annual
Gary Jeffries Golf Classic have been donated towards athletic scholarships for Wilfrid Laurier football student-athletes.
“Robbie is the perfect recipient of the first-annual
Gary Jeffries Scholarship,” noted Golden Hawks head coach
Michael Faulds. “Not only is Robbie one of the best defensive ends we have ever had at Laurier, and will be an early selection in the CFL Draft this spring, but off the field he has an outstanding GPA in Kinesiology and is a recognizable face around campus. When you think of what it takes to be a successful student-athlete,
Robbie Smith definitely checks off all the right boxes.”
Smith, a 6-2, 245 lbs., fourth-year Kinesiology and Physical Education Major from Brampton, Ont. will enter the CFL Draft ranked 15th overall, with the draft taking place on May 2nd.
