Competing in four races over three days at the U SPORTS Swimming Championships in Victoria, BC, Goni Avila qualified for three A finals and one B final. The 85 points he accumulated placed Laurier's men's team as the fourth-highest among OUA schools at the competition and 15th overall. On Thursday, the second-year business major finished 7th for the 50M Freestyle in 23.48 seconds and 6th in the 100M Butterfly. He recorded a personal best time of 55.68 seconds in the latter. Friday and Saturday saw the native of Richmond Hill, Ont. secure two lifetime best times. He had a 25.28-second finish in the 50M Butterfly (good for 13th place) and a 51.44-second result in the 100M Freestyle, which was only .24 of a second - and three positions - short of a podium finish.
