James was a defensive tackle at Laurier from 2015-2019, during which he made the OUA All-Rookie team, was a first-team OUA all-star (2017 & 2018), a second-team U SPORTS All-Canadian (2018), and a second-team OUA all-star (2019). He also won a Yates Cup with the Golden Hawks in 2016. 

In 2019, he signed with the Toronto Argonauts as an undrafted free agent. 

In 2020, James graduated from Laurier and, during the COVID-19 pandemic, returned to school and graduated from Westervelt College’s massage therapy program in 2022 to become a registered massage therapist.

James is the son of Amanda Forbes and has three younger siblings; Jordan Prentice, Jahnoi Prentice, and Selassie Prentice. 

He lives in Waterloo with his girlfriend, and fellow Laurier alum, Julia.
