Laurier Athletics - Waterloo Campus

Matt Sparks joined Laurier Football in 2021 as the Assistant Offensive Line Coach. Matt played football, baseball, and wrestled at Punahou School in Honolulu, HI. He was named a first-team all-state for football and was an all-state wrestler.

Sparks went on to play football and study civil engineering at the University of Massachusetts. He played as a freshman, starting three games at left guard. He started at center the next three years and was named OL captain for his junior and senior seasons. Matt was named to the Rimington (top C) and Outland Trophy (top OL) national watch lists before his senior year. He was also honored as the UMass Male Student Athlete of the Year his senior year.

Sparks now lives in Kitchener with his wife Emily and two dogs, Ricki and Bobby. He is currently pursuing his PhD in civil engineering at the University of Waterloo.
