Beyond February: Alfred Green

Beyond February: Alfred Green

Alfred Green arrived at Laurier in 2016 already battle-tested, having attended Ajax Secondary School and competed with the Durham Dolphins before joining the Golden Hawks just in time to contribute to a Yates Cup championship season.

The 6-foot-3, 233-pound defensive lineman went on to enjoy a productive OUA career from 2016 to 2020. After appearing in one game as a rookie, Green became a regular presence along the defensive front, playing 25 games over the next three seasons. He finished his university career with 54 tackles, including 13 for a loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

One of Green’s most memorable moments came in 2019, when he blocked a field goal attempt late in regulation against the Waterloo Warriors. Laurier went on to defeat the Warriors, led by quarterback Tre Ford, 53-50 in overtime in one of the most dramatic games in program history.

Green graduated in 2020 with a degree in sociology before taking the next step in his football career. He was selected by the British Columbia Lions in the fifth round (41st overall) of the 2021 CFL Draft and suited up for the club that season. He later spent time with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2022 before retiring from professional football.

Since stepping away from the field, Green has turned his focus toward creative and media pursuits. He began producing highlight videos for fellow athletes during his university career under the name LEFDRA Productions and has since built a career in sports media and fashion.

Green currently works as a social media manager for House of CFL, a platform aimed at offering a fresh perspective on Canadian football coverage. He is also the co-founder and creative director of Celsius Fits, a fashion-based publication highlighting Canadian athletes, designers, stylists, brands and creatives.
