Beyond February: Jordan French
By: Dave Morrissey
Jordan French started his scholastic and athletic career at Laurier in 2017.
He started playing football in grade 10 at Central Tech in Toronto. He also played summer ball with the Toronto Jr Argos.
French recalled being told by former coach/recruiting coordinator Dwayne Cameron, “I can’t promise you a CFL contract, but I can promise you a degree and a bright future if you come to Laurier and work hard.”
French was a linebacker who dressed in 17 career games in 2018 and 2019. The highlight of his career was scoring a touchdown on a botched Queen’s punt return in Laurier’s 52-16 blowout victory in a home game in 2019.
During his university years and afterwards, French volunteered at youth basketball programs and at Lutherwood (now known as Starling Community Services) in Waterloo, where he raised money for youth living in shelters.
After receiving his degree in Sociology from Laurier in 2022, French chose to pursue a career in law enforcement (like so many other former Hawk football players). He decided to become a police officer because he wanted to help people in times of need and be a positive influence in his community.
French began working in the Peel region as a constable in 2023 and plans to eventually join the department’s tactical unit (SWAT) in the near future.
